![]() This crafting magic means that the 'spirit and will' of humanity can literally be felt from its creations. Depending on how far you want to stretch his naming something might be enough to have it become a host of 'human soul'. The 'soul' of the parents passes on to the children, the 'soul' of an author resides in its stories, and the 'soul' of a creator goes into its creations. ![]() Regardless of what it is the very 'soul' of the maker goes into the creation. Humans can't cast spells like other species, instead we literally pour ourselves into our creations. Unlike the original idea humanity has magic, but its much more subtle and uncontrolled. which makes the 'dark magic animated soulless abomination' theory seem a lot more likely. To make things even more confusing for the aliens, if their capable of noticing it, we still have individual minds The methods aliens use to confirm if souls exist can sense this 'psychic energy', but can't confirm if actual a really big soul, or just a highly complex animation spell. Basically the eastern religions were the closest to being accurate. We have some kind of 'psychic energy' that looks almost sort of soul like, but its not individualized like normal souls. Humanity looks like a soulless abomination since we don't have souls, plural. Basically standard fantasy stuff that caused technology development to get slowed down a lot once they got what they needed for civilization. These souls give the aliens the ability to use magic for various effects that are really hard to not notice. Possibly even confirmed afterlife dimensions. I had an alternate idea after reading the tech using soulless abomination humans and magic using aliens idea, plus the resulting soul debate, and the dark magic mistake stuff.Īlien species have souls, and methods of confirming that their actually souls and not something more mundane. So what happens if you connect a soul to a human's high capacity meat brain? Without souls, humanity had to evolve our meat brains to handle those higher though functions. So if we take the Tower of Babel story at face value, humanity is actually the victim of a magic curse of some kind, one that either stripped us of our souls, or at least removed/turned off/hid many of the functions that a soul provides.Ī further implication: what if humanity could get our souls back? Ensouled races run all their higher thought processes in their souls and their meat brains handle purely autonomic functions. One of the hallmarks of the Ensouled races is that they could understand each other despite speaking different languages. Now think about it in terms of the "Humans have no souls" setting. This immediately brought the whole Tower of Babel project to an end as no one could understand each other anymore. God didn't like this, so punished humanity with a curse that resulted in everyone talking a different language. Anyone recall the Tower of Babel story?īack in the day, humanity tried to reach Heaven by building a really tall tower. I very much prefer my idea where humanity does have souls, we just hide it very well because of some prehistoric disaster.
